Taliesin: Apricity [exclusive mix]

Category: , , By brockolio

In an era of unparalleled media saturation, Taliesin shines through the detritus. A scientist's attention for detail and a painterly view towards the decks puts Taliesin at the forefront of a new generation of DJs obsessed with exploring new sonic possibilities in turntable based performance. Hunting bass across eras and genres, Taliesin's obsession with the physicality of sound and the magical interaction between performer and audience combine to produce astounding mixes and provoking performances. As comfortable playing museum openings in New York as he is laying wreck to parties under the freeway in Seattle's south side, Taliesin's low end theory ignores boundaries and turns heads every time he touches a mixer. He has worked with the likes of Ghislain Poirier, Drop The Lime, DJ/Rupture, Matt Shadetek, Starkey, Filastine, TSA, Kid Kameleon, Ripley, Plastic Little, Star Eyes, Cousin Cole, Rezound, Geko Jones, Jah Dan, Orson, Math Head Kohei; and the list is only sure to grow from here on.

We had been in touch with with Talie and discussed the idea of him putting together a mix for us and he was glad to oblige. Creating a perfect blend of bass-heavy eclecticism, Apricity was born; a mix that Talie himself describes as "deeply invested in the specificities of space and time. Particularly- this mix is about the Fall and coming Winter of 2009, 86 miles up the Hudson from New York City. What I am trying to get at is a dual acknowledgment of my own time and location and my fractured, distended ability to reach out via telecommunications through history and space."

"I am trying to honestly deal with the mix as a tangible thing that I have put my labor into- it was made by me, alone in my bedroom. A lot of mixes I've done before seemed to deny this- just being about party rocking- like this is an hour of peak time material- and look how hard I can go. Or really simple growth ideas like start mellow and get more hype. Which is hilarious to think about- all these djs with imaginary audiences in their studios- while they just go HARD for an hour or two- and when they're done recording it's just them sweaty and alone in their room. I tried to have this mix acknowledge itself- and I think as it rebuilds around the Wisp track it really starts to get interesting."

Get ready to start hearing this name a lot more often. Europe watch out! as he is set to be moving to Budapest in the coming months.

Just want to take the time to wish him all the best on his upcoming move. Stay up to date through his Myspace and keep up with the rest of the Dutty Artz fam on through their blog.

now, without further ado, Apricity.
