Bassfaced: Portland!

Another huge weekend of beats and basslines in the PDX! Thursday night the Fresh party at the Crown Room got it started right with Abstract Earth and Desiderata Productions bringing in Reso, Eprom, RD, and Tyler Tastemaker vs. Behnibubu.

We arrived to the sounds of RD warming the place up with some dancefloor oriented IDM and Glitch. San Francisco's EPROM was the next to man the mixer and wasted no time immediately dropping the killer bassline tune from MOVES!!! 'All Skate' out now on Dress 2 Sweat. He threw down a hell of a bubbling 8-bit set that got the subs flexing, asses shaking, and the dancefloor heads bobbing.
Check out the promo mix he was handing out to the crowd HERE. (direct link)
Be sure to grab his '64bytes' EP (which went OFF at the Crown Room) from Addictech with remixes from Mat The Alien, Vibesquad, Boreta, ill.gates ft. Meesha and Mat the Alien, WeaponsHouse, as well as EPROM's own remix of the tune.
Next up on the decks, straight outta the UK was Reso causing tremors on the dancefloor with his unique brand of brutal, chest-rattling, in your face dubstep. Highlights from the set included 501's 'Get Back', Chase & Status' 'Saxon' and huge tunes from Reso himself 'Onslaught' and 'Smash Your Face In' (now available for free download HERE). He also pushed the tempo into some breaks territory after dropping his tune 'If Ya Can't Beat Em' naturally lending its way into some serious 4x4 surging basslines. Here's a few more shots of the night sniped by the wonderful Angela Dawn, you can scope the whole flickr stream of the night here.

Friday night brought us back to the Crown Room for Round 2. This time it was the team of Euphonic Conceptions, Abstract Earth, and 1320 records bringing in the talents of Devon, Alex B, and Gaslamp Killer in a latenight affair running until the early hours. Regretfully we didn't make it in time to catch Devon, but make sure to check his Myspace or catch him live at Berbati's Pan in Portland on March 12 alongside Dain. He also put up a couple beats on his MySpace that you can download for free. Alex B straight murdered it with a wide range of deep sounds and spacey futuristic hip-hop that will bring out the inner Dilla fan in us all. Fans of LuckyMe and the Brainfeeder crew definitely look out for the kid because he is going to be making some big moves. You can download his first beat tape HERE on his website and also download a free Dilla remix he did recently. Also, check his blog focused mainly around home studio hip-hop production over at GiveMeBrain.net
After AlexB, it was time for none other than the Mother.Fucking GASLAMP KILLER. GLK threw down an amazing and eclectic set that tapped into the sounds of dubstep, hip hop, and just about everything in between. He's got an incredibly unique stage presence and a style of mixing completely his own that makes for one hell of a live experience. He threw down a set of rough and tuff dubstep tracks as well as tunes from the Hyperdub, LuckyMe, and Brainfeeder labels and blended them all together in a seamless and at the same time completely chaotic fashion. 16Bit's 'Chainsaw Calligraphy', Rustie & Joker's 'Play-Doe', and a hot off the presses remix of Flying Lotus by the master of 'bitstep' Quarta330 were some of the standout tunes from the set. GLK was also just selected by MAH to be a part of her annual showcase at the Sonar festival in Barcelona this summer alongside Joker and Martyn.
Saturday night, the skankout stamina was truly tested with a huge dubstep dubbleheader. Started the night off proper at the VariousPDX monthly at Branx, which if you've never been before is exactly where you want to see dubstep music. The place is no bullshit, no decor, dark, and in the middle of a bunch of warehouses in the Southeast.
The extra sound brought in by HAS was serious and had even the most seasoned of bassweight vets Joe Nice nodding his head in approval. Night began with deep sets from Various resident DJs Monkeytek and Ryan Organ to warm the system up for everyone. Really nice contrast to Gaslamp Killer and Reso's sets earlier on in the weekend and it was nice to get the broad scope of the different styles within the sound. Monkeytek let us know that these opening sets will be broadcast on Dubstep.fm at some point in the near future so we'll be sure to keep you all in the loop when that happens.
Next to step to the decks was Dubstep.fm rudeboy Dopelabs who started to bring things a little bit heavier and more unsettling. You can download his full hour-long set HERE.
Searchl1te from Chicago then brought a gritty set featuring a monstrous tracklist over the hour and a half slot. Unreleased tunes from Hexidecibel, Starkey, HD4000 and others. Look out for Starkey's remix of Ghislain, the Mr. Curtamos remix of t2's Niche classic 'Heartbroken', and Don Goliath's 'No Soundboy No Cry'; all big tunes. Out to Dopelabs and Chelsea Ross on the shots from Various.

For a second time on the night we stumbled back across the Burnside Bridge to catch Joe Nice man the decks latenight at Berbati's Pan. A monstrous set that started around 4am and didn't let up until the lights were turned on at 5am to the sounds of Skream's jungle tribute tune 'Burnin Up.' Huge set that featured a grab bag session, Jakes' murderous 'Rock The Bells', some unreleased Mala, and a vicious vicious new Kutz plate. Out to Joe each and every.
