Dark Disco in NYC this Friday
WHEN: Friday, December 3rd
DOORS: 9pm
AGE: 18+
WHERE: Music Hall of Williamsburg // 66 N. 6th St, Williamsburg
Dark Disco is a quarterly party produced by MeanRed productions. Other artists that have been showcased at Dark Disco include: Boys Noize, Drop The Lime (live!), MJ Cole (US Return), Ikonika (US Debut), Actress, Michna, Kenny Dope, House of House, Worthy, Nick Hook & Egyptrixx
It strives to push the boundaries of what night clubbers call the “party”. It strives to bring together established and emerging talent from around the globe to create a new future... The selected artists are seen as visionaries, pioneers, and icons…
Dark Disco was also created to open a dialogue and showcase the center point of the convergence of music, visual art, and the communities that surround them. Dark Disco partners with local and international artists, and creates installations within its venues to alter the typical environment.
This Dark Disco we feature the convergence of Audio and Visual with one of the pioneers of both… Nosaj Thing. What better way to complement the night than with a floor shaking set by a DJ who’s always ahead of the curve, Mary Anne Hobbs, as well as DJ sets by Toro y Moi, and Luv-Stepper, Dirty South Joe!
For one night, we hope to draw everyone into one room filled with music and art and change their perspective on what “nightlife” means....
L.A.-based producer Nosaj Thing (Jason Chung) is a sound innovator. His electronic soundscapes and wild beat tectonics play like vignettes that affect the listener’s mind as deeply as he hits their soul. Without a doubt, Nosaj Thing is among L.A.’s finest musical modulators.
In high school, Jason picked up a day job at a local music store, focusing his efforts on the arduous task of saving up for his first Mac. But Destiny had become fond of Nosaj Thing’s resolve. In a contest, Jason won a favored producer tool: his own honest copy of Logic Pro. Wild circumstances? Perhaps. But he’s still using it, winning beat battles, remix contests, gigging and DJing within his network of like-minded musical vigilantes. Now 23, Nosaj Thing creates nothing less than the sound mastery of beat driven, experimental electronics from a gifted noise constructor. This will be the NYC debut of his A/V live show. Video from the performance in Amsterdam earlier this Fall can be seen below:

Mary Anne Hobbs is best known as an evangelist for underground music, a BBC Radio1 host and an international live DJ.
Her ‘Dubstep Warz’ show for BBC Radio1 is widely regarded at the show that broke the dubstep sound globally. Mary Anne also makes films, presents on tv and writes. She released a trilogy of definitive underground electronic compilations for the Planet Mu label. She has also made quite the name for herself with widely heralded self-curated showcases, playing to thousands of eager fans at Barcelona's Sonar Festival over the years.
Now leaving BBC Radio 1, Mary Anne Hobbs has an infinite ocean of exciting new possibilities ahead of her, and the bass music world waits with bated breath to see what this pioneer, champion and icon will dream up next.
Mary Anne can also ride any motorcycle you care to park in front of her.
Toro Y Moi is 23 year old Columbia, South Carolina native and resident Chaz Bundick. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design at The University of South Carolina, Chaz decided to push his music further now that he has more time on his hands.
This multi-cultural juggernaut gathers up the best musical elements from around the globe— R&B, Indie Rock, Electronic Dance and Psychedelica —and creates something-freaking-else! Over the course of his first groundbreaking full length “Causers Of This”, Toro Y Moi turns the aforementioned musics upside-down with his breathtakingly innovative approach. The incendiary power of Toro Y Moi’s funky synth and guitar play, pumping digital rhythms and gorgeously bright vocal harmonies makes for a formidable combination.
Look out for the sophomore LP from Toro y Moi 'Underneath the Pine' releasing on Carpark in February 2011.
Trilladelphia's finest Dirty South Joe rounds out the bill with a DJ set. Check out his Luvstep mix with Flufftronix from earlier this year to set the mood.
