Been anxiously waiting to unleash this one on everyone this week. Not only because it comes from the homeys Hirshi & Phleghm, but it also features a bunch of unreleased tuneage from some of our favorite people out there making music today.
After many a night at the NYC monthly Turrbotax downing complimentary Asahi's, I had approached Dan and Zach about putting together a mix for the blog. What they delivered was a 40-minute journey of almost strictly unreleased material from friends and aquaintances they've made through the NYC bass music scene and beyond. Here's some words Dan lent about the mix. Enjoy! and big up Hirshi, Phleghm, and all the producers who lent tunes to the mix! We love you all!
"First of all, I want to thank Bassfaced blog for the opportunity to share this mix with the bass music community. Before we got into the DJing game, Bassfaced was a huge resource for quality mixes and new material which helped shape our style and approach. The content and coverage is consistently next level.
After starting The Grime Machine on WNYU.org (now Sundays 6-8PM) almost 2-years ago, Zach and I have come along way. Our involvement with dubstep really paved the way for us to think about ALL dance music differently and expand our tastes and interests. The term "bass music" is probably a more appropriate label for our current endeavors. We not only search for the most progressive and forward-thinking music, but have been stimulated retroactively by the origins of electronic music.
The bass music community is thriving and we are blessed to be apart of it. This mix highlights some of the homegrown sounds of people we have interacted with as a part of this global community. Our local bass family is represented here with tracks from Incyde, Mayster, Contakt, Damien Granz, Jusjackin, Subox1, Cosmo D, Blind Prophet and myself. Our extended family reaches across the country with tracks from Atlanta friend Distal and L.A. transplant Cromie, as well as internationally with tunes from Montreal's HGLDT and UK brethren Kingthing and Submerse. The tracks have been selected for their variety of style and showcase a grassroots inventiveness that you may not have a had a chance to hear anywhere else. We are proud to be affiliated with these artists-- they are our friends and our family in this bass community! They help us push our sound forward!
Must tip my hat to Soundcloud. This site changed the way we interact with tunes, as DJs and producers, and has been a major creative force. The platform is beautifully designed and encourages critical feedback and community interaction. It's the fucking bomb. Most of the artists in our mix can be found on this site, so check them out there if you want to hear more.
Hirshi & Phleghm are here to stay. Our BLANK party is now officially a monthly (Last Saturdays at Tandem, Bushwick--> Next dates 8/28 w/ No Regular Play + 9/25 TBA) and we are happy to be working with Contakt + Mayster, who run our favorite NY party, Turrbotax®. Having brought to you exclusive sets from Jubilee, Incyde and DJ Dex (Underground Resistance) we are going to strive for more eclectic and exciting bookings for the future.
Our next big thing is still in the works, but I'll let you all know that it is going to be an event emphasizing both DJ and live instrumentation. We are hooking up with some amazing local musicians right now, electronic and otherwise, and we are building a team for a fresh new take on the universal dance party. Keep your eyes peeled for more info."
