Roots and culture styyyyle from Bristol's Rob Smith aka RSD. This one, a live mix done for BTTB radio April 26th, 2009. Long before Bristol had become a recognized stronghold for downtempo trip-hop and spy-soundtrack dubs, the duo of Rob Smith and Ray Mighty teamed in the late '80s for two early breakbeat tracks, "Walk on By" and "Anyone Who Had a Heart." The anachronistic fusion of sophisticated Burt Bacharach productions with laidback hip-hop prefigured trip-hop's later fascination with the more polished end of '60s adult-pop. Rob then moved on to create his own label and productions as well, weaving together the vast influences of reggae, drum n bass, breaks, and dub under the monicker RSD. Here we got a set from El-B & J Da Flex for Ramp radio on May 2nd which features a minimix from J Da as well as a preview of some of the new Ghost tunes forthcoming on the new album. When it began around 2000, dubstep was a darker hybrid of garage devised primarily by El-B's Ghost, Zed Bias, and Horsepower... EL-B started producing low-key Techno tracks in the early 90's but made his name as the creative force behind the legendary UK Garage production unit 'Groove Chronicles'.... After countless remixes and soulful classics EL began his solo project 'Ghost' recordings...the rest is history. Looking forward to the new LP.

Original Cultures is a non-profit project that aims to facilitate and promote cultural exchange between Japan and Europe through modern performing arts. At its simplest, the project is about allowing artists to visit each other's countries, collaborate and exchange with each other through their art, be it music making or painting. This exchange is documented in every form and released for free on the internet to create a permanent record for anyone to see/hear and be inspired. The project was born in late 2008 and was launched in early 2009 linking England, Italy and Japan.
